WAVERLY -- The Rev. Arnold Ferdinand Imbrock, 90, of Waverly, died Friday, Oct. 4, at Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community, Waverly.

He was born Sept. 30, 1923, in Deshler, Ohio, son of Ferdinand W. and Luella Buchenberg Imbrock. He married Helen Maassel on Dec. 26, 1947, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Hamler, Ohio.

He graduated from Hamler High School in 1941, and then helped his family on the farm. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and returned to Ohio where he worked part-time at a grocery store and then for the VA with a Farm Rehab Program. In 1947, he began his studies at Wartburg College, Waverly, and then attended Wartburg Seminary, Dubuque. In 1953, he served his first church in Gordon, Neb. He later served churches in Arlington-Badger, S.D., Hudson, S.D., LeMars and Rock Rapids, retiring in 1988. After retirement, he was called to fill vacancies at churches in Oran; Buck Creek, near Tripoli; Jubilee, near La Porte City; and in 1991, he became the visitation pastor for Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Waterloo, until 2008.

He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Waverly. He was past president of the Kiwanis Club, Wartburg Alumni Association and the Le Mars Rotary Club, and served as chaplain of American Legion Post 176.

Survived by: his wife; four sons, Dr. James (Colleen) of Omaha, Neb., Timothy (Rebecca) of Boulder, Col., Stephen (Garnet) of Foxfire, N.C., and Daniel of Cross Lake, Minn.; two daughters, Ruth (Terry) Hershberger of Napoleon, Ohio, and Rachel Imbrock of Hopkins, Minn.; four granddaughters; a brother, Alvin of Hamler; and a sister, Bertha Fischer of Waterville, Ohio.

Preceded in death by: his parents; a brother, Lawrence; and a sister, Paula Cordes.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Waverly, with burial in the church cemetery, with military rites by Waverly Area Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly, and for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.

Memorials: may be directed to St. Paul’s Building Fund, Cedar Valley Hospice of Waverly, Bartels Chaplaincy or Wartburg Seminary.
