Mrs. W. Bahlmann, Oldest Resident of Tripoli, Succumbs

Fifth Generation Survives; Lived to See 127 Direct Descendants of Her Union

Tripoli's oldest resident, Mrs. Wilhelmina Bahlmann, almost 93 died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Will Grebien last Thursday, Aug. 16, after being in failing health for a number of years.

Services were held Sunday at 12:45 p.m. from the Meier funeral home and continued at St. Peter's Evangelical and Reformed church, with Rev. Theo. Blaufuss officiating. Burial was made at the church cemetery.

Serving as casket bearers were: Paul Bremer, Clarence Bahlmann, Virgil Leege, Lawrence Bahlmann, Everett Slack, Stanley Bahlmann, Robert Bahlmann and Paul Block.

Wilhelmina Muller, daughter of Fred and Sophie Muller, was born Sept. 7, 1858 in Luebow, Germany. She was baptized in early infancy and later confirmed in Luebow. On Nov. 12, 1880 she became the wife of John Bahlmann with the wedding taking place in Luebow.

Mr. and Mrs. Bahlmann came to this country in June 1883. The couple settled first at Spring Fountain and later moved to north of Tripoli, moving to Tripoli in 1912.

The union was blessed with 10 children, six boys and four girls. Mrs. Bahlmann had lived to see 127 direct descendants of her marriage, and all except two of them survive her. There were ten children, 36 grandchildren, 72 great grandchildren, and nine great great grandchildren.

She was a member of St. Peter's church where she was also a member of the Women's Guild, and was the church's oldest member.

She and her husband had celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1930, and the couple lived together for 57 years before Mr. Bahlmann died in 1937. She was also preceded in death by one son and one daughter.

Surviving besides the third, fourth, and fifth generations, are her sons, John and Ernest of Tripoli, Herman and Emil of Frederika, Henry of Sumner; three daughters, Minnie (Mrs. Fred Buchholz), and Emma (Mrs. Will Grebien) of Tripoli, and Mrs. Marie Slack, New Hampton.
