Daisy Mae Vanderwerf of 1019 Nash Street, Aplington, Iowa, was born the daughter of David H. and Mary Blair Shipp on June 6, 1900, in Bremer County, Iowa, near Horton. Daisy received her education in rural schools in Bremer County.
On August 13, 1919, Daisy was united in marriage to Perry Wilson in Waterloo, Iowa. Daisy and Perry started their family in Waverly, Iowa. They had seven children together; five daughters, Margaret, Nellie, Elnore, Lenore and Mary; and two sons, Richard and Galen.
On March 15, 1952, Daisy married William Vanderwerf in the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. After their marriage William and Daisy lived in Aplington, Iowa. Daisy enjoyed keeping busy if not sewing, canning or baking, she was out gardening and growing flowers. Daisy liked collecting cardinal bird ornaments and watching and feeding the birds. She loved her family and was very proud to display all of the birthday cards that she would receive each year from her family and friends.
On Saturday, January 18, 1997, Daisy died at her home from natural causes. She had reached the age of 96 years, 7 months and 12 days. Daisy was preceded in death by: her husbands, Perry Wilson in 1963 and William Vanderwerf in 1969, two sons, Richard and Galen Wilson; one great-grandson; one step-granddaughter, Paulette Jansen; 11 brothers and 1 sister.
Daisy is survived by: five daughters, Margaret (Burton) Bolton, Elnore (Robert) Walther and Lenore (Maurice) Buehrer all of Waverly, Iowa, Nellie (Wayne) Smith of Eldora, Iowa and Mary (Robert) Smith of Buffalo Creek, Colorado; one step-daughter, Sylvia (Paul) Jansen, Parkersburg, Iowa; one step-son, Rev Calvin (Sally) Vanderwerf, Temple, Texas; 25 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren, and 21 great-great grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren and nine step-great grandchildren; one sister, Nellie (Carl) Eggleston of the Bartels Lutheran Home in Waverly, Iowa; and her caregiver, Louella Feldhoff.
