HIS FATAL RIDE
William Mueller Meets Death in Attempt to Catch Ride on a Freight Train at Sumner, Sunday Evening

Sunday evening William Mueller and two small boys, Leland Wescott and Arthur Granger were sitting at the Great Western depot in Sumner, when a freight train came through. Mueller, who had a sort of mania for jumping on trains, said he would be back in a minute and ran along side the swiftly moving cars. Not returning when the boys thought he should they went in search of him and found him lying by the side of the track. The body was badly mangled and torn.

William Frederick Mueller was born in Charles City 29 years ago Aug. 28. He lived here with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Chris Mueller. He was an honest, industrious young man, of exemplary habits. He and his younger brother John who is now in Los Angeles were constant companions and many people spoke of the brotherly affection between them. For some time he had worked for Alfred Ciss in his auto repair shop. He was the oldest son, and the parents are greatly bereft. The other children are Mrs. Koebrich of Charles City, John of Los Angeles, Miss Lois, Joie, and Edith of Sumner. The funeral services were held at the house Tuesday afternoon by the Rev. H. Bredow of the German Lutheran Church.
