Lillie May Asmus, 86, of Waverly, Iowa passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2002, at the Allison Health Care Center in Allison, Iowa of natural causes.

Lillie was born March 21, 1916, the daughter of Charles and Elizabeth (August) Huegel in Dorchester, Nebraska. She graduated from Dorchester High School in 1933. Following her education, she worked for Belle Telephone for several years.

On October 30, 1938, she was united in marriage to Paul Asmus in Dorchester, Nebraska. In 1944, the couple moved to Janesville, Iowa and in 1951, they moved to their present farm north of Waverly, Iowa. In the fall of 1952, Lillie started the school lunch program at the Waverly High School. She retired from the hot lunch program in 1984. She became a resident of the Allison Health Care Center for the last 3½ years.

She enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking and flowers. Paul and Lillie are well known for their sweet corn and watermelon patch. Lillie was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Shell Rock, Iowa and a member of the ladies aid.

Survivors are her husband, Paul of Waverly, Iowa; two sons and their spouses, Everett and Sheryl Asmus of Webster City, Iowa and Larry and Donna Asmus of Florahome, Florida; six grandchildren, Brian and Carla Asmus, Jill Asmus, Todd Asmus, Mike and Jeny Asmus, Kristen Asmus and Jeanette Asmus; one great granddaughter, Natalie Asmus.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Ernest Huegel and by one sister, Hazel Darwin.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 23, 2002, at 10:30 am at Faith Lutheran Church in Shell Rock, Iowa. Burial will be in the Harlington Cemetery in Waverly, Iowa. Friends may call from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Sunday, December 22, 2002 at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Shell Rock, Iowa.

Memorials may be left to the Faith Lutheran Church. Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Shell Rock, Iowa is in charge of arrangements. 885-4321
