Elva Jane Seeliger
Born in Emporia, Kansas on Aug. 15, 1907
Departed on Oct. 25, 2003 and resided in Waverly, IA.

Elva J. Seeliger, 96, of Waverly, Iowa, died Saturday night, October 25, 2003, at Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community of natural causes.

Elva was born on August 15, 1907, in Emporia, Kansas, the daughter of Arthur and Myra Hinze. Elva spent most of her younger years in Kansas. After high school, Elva went to Kansas State Teachers College.

On May 26, 1933, Elva was united in marriage to Lowell Seeliger in Emporia, Kansas. The couple lived in South Dakota for a year before moving back to Kansas. They lived in Lawrence, Council Grove, Emporia, and Eureka, Kansas before moving to New Hampton in 1940. During these years, Elva raised her two daughters and worked in retail as a sales clerk for many years. The couple later moved to Wayzata, Minnesota, to help take care of their daughter who was weakened by polio. Lowell later died in 1980. Elva continued to live in Minnesota where she eventually moved into the St. Terese Care Center in New Hope, Minnesota 10 years ago. She live there until moving into Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community on July 10, 2002. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and especially spending time with family and friends.

Elva is survived by her 5 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; one son-in-law, Larry Wedemeier.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Lowell on July 8, 1980; two daughters, Jeanenne Wedemeier and Beverly Seeliger; 6 sisters; and one granddaughter, Valerie Klossowsky.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 28, 2003, at 10:30 A.M. at Good Shepherd Chapel at Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community. Burial will be held in New Hampton Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly. Memorials may be directed to the family.
