Klea Harriet Shipman, 87, of Waverly, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2003 at the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community of natural causes.

She was born on October 4, 1915, on a farm southwest of Waverly in Washington Township, Bremer County, Iowa the daughter of Forest R. ''Pete'' and Blanche (Amick) Shipman. Klea attended grade school at Washington #6 Country School and graduated from Shell Rock High School in 1932. She then taught country schools in Bremer County for six years, and after attending Gates Business College in Waterloo for one session. She then became administrator assistant for the Bremer County Superintendent of Schools. After that, she became a secretary in the Allison, Iowa office for the Joint County of Schools and later worked in the same office for the Tri County School System. She retired in the spring of 1980, and then devoted most of her retirement time in caring for her father until his death on September 12, 1989 at the age of 102.

Klea was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Waverly, Iowa. She became a resident of the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in August 16, 1994. She enjoyed traveling throughout her life.

Survivors are several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Stuart in 1934.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2003 at 11:00 am at Good Sheperd Chapel at the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly, Iowa with Pastors Tony Nester and Keith Tomlinson officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Shell Rock, Iowa. Friends may call on Friday, January 24, 2003 from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly, Iowa and after 9:30 am Saturday at the Good Sheperd Chapel before services. Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home of Waverly, Iowa is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be left to Trinity United Methodist Church or Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community. 352-1187
