Funeral services for Melvin Henry Nerge, age 60, were held December 19 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Sumner, Iowa. Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery in Denver, Iowa. Becker-Milnes Funeral Service, Inc. of Sumner was in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Ray Kuethe, Don Dilley, Arnold Rieck, Don Flanscha, Greg Strottman, and Steve Topel. Honorary pallbearers were Jerry Mount and Richard Wellner.

Melvin Henry Nerge, son of Johnnie H.W. and Millie (Buss) Nerge, was born October 28, 1929 near Sumner, Iowa in Bremer County. He attended rural Bremer County schools and the parochial school at St. Paul's in Sumner. On September 5, 1948 he married Neva Friedly with the Rev. Nagler officiating. He farmed his entire life in the Pinhook area before retiring in 1985 due to ill health. He was a member of the St. Paul's Church and was active with St. Paul's Brotherhood.

Melvin died December 16, 1989 at his rural Bremer County home. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a daughter Shirley Ann Nerge, who died in infancy.

He is survived by his wife, Neva, a daughter, Judy (Robert) Lewey of Waukon, Iowa and one brother, Elmer Nerge of rural Sumner, Iowa.
