MRS. CAROLINE MILLER DIES IN INDEPENDENCE
On Thursday of last week, May 3, 1917, word was received here to the effect that Mrs. Caroline Miller was dangerously ill and a short time later a message announced her death.
The body was brought to Waverly Friday and the funeral was held on Saturday afternoon from the Wile & Maaser undertaking parlors. Rev. J.S. Cole officiated, and burial was in Harlington cemetery.
Older settlers will remember the deceased, who was the wife of the late August Miller, who conducted a bakery in Waverly many years ago. She was the mother of C.W. Miller who died in this city a year ago last October. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Robert Weston, of Elgin, Illinois.
Forty-nine years ago, during a severe spell of sickness, Mrs. Miller lost her mind and was taken to the hospital at Independence, where she has since been a patient, except for a few weeks when she was home about thirty-five years ago. At that time it was thought that she had made sufficient recovery to warrant her return home, but shortly after her arrival here her mind again became affected and she was taken back to the hospital. During the many years she was there, she enjoyed good health and made herself useful about the kitchen and dining room. She was never violent and was considered a model patient. Some time ago she was seized with convulsions, of which she had several attacks, and which finally caused her death.
Mrs. Miller was born in Germany 83 years ago, and she came to this country when a young girls. She was married to August Miller in Waverly and she was a woman who was devoted to her family, up to the time of her sad affliction. During her long confinement in the hospital, she never complained and seemed contented with her lot. Her life was a blank, and in death she is relieved of a great affliction.
