KOEHLER, THIES, WOLTEN, GUENTHER

James Albert Wittenburg, 72, of Sumner, died Thursday, Jan 13, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids following a medical procedure.

He was born Sept. 27, 1938, in Fayette County, son of Albert and Leota Koehler Wittenburg. He married Betty Lou Thies of March 4, 1962, at Fairth United Church of Christ in Tripoli.

He graduated from Sumner High School in 1957, and served with the U.S. Army from 1961-63. He farmed, worked at Paul Niemann Construction Co., in Sumner, Terex Cranes in Waverly and Beatrice Foods in Fredericksburg, retiring in 1998. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner.

Survived by his wife; a daughter, Teressa (Mike) Wolten of West Union; two sons, Phillip of Kansas City, Mo; and Michael (Jaclyn) and five grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a brother, John; and a sister, Miriam Guenther.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at St John Lutheran Church, Sumner, with burial in Wilson Grove Cemetery, rural Sumner. Public visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home, Sumner, and for an hour before services Monday at the church. Military rites by Thomas E. Wood Post 223, American Legion of Sumner.
