Moehling, W.J.

W.J. Moehling, who owns and operates a one hundred and sixty acre farm on section 13, Jefferson towsnhip, is a native son of Bremer county, born in 1876. His parents, Henry and Louisa Moehling, were natives of Germany and after coming to America settled first in Illinois, whence they moved to Iowa, among the early settlers. The father bought land in Bremer county and engaged in general farming until he retired from active life in 1903. Since that time he has made his home in Denver. He and his wife became the paretns of nine children, seven of whom are still living.

W.J. Moehling acquired his education in the public schools of Bremer county and remianed at home until he was twenty-six years of age. At that time he began his independent career and has since been engaged in farming, an occupation which he understands in principle and detail. He owns one hundred and sixty acres of excellent land on section 13, Jefferson township, and also five acres of timber land. His interests are all carefully conducted and have brought him a success which places him among the representative and substantial farmers of his locaity.

Mr. Moehling married Miss Anna Steege, a native of Bremer county and a daughter of Henry and Sophia Steege, the former a native of Illinois and the latter of Germany. The father settled in Bremer County, this state, in the early '60s and bought land in Maxfield township, gradually accumulating large holdings. He and his wife became the parents of eight children, seven of whom are still living. Mr. and Mrs. Moehling have four children: Wilmont, who was born in 1904; Werner, born in 1907; Esther, 1911; and Elda, 1913.

Mr. Moehling is a democrat in his political beliefs and is interested in public affairs, although he is not active as an office seeker. He has spent his entire life in Jefferson township and has become widely and favorably known, holding a high place among Bremer county's representative and progressive native sons.
