George Brewer is a son of a pioneer in Bremer county and has himself contributed in substantial measure to the general progress during his many years of close connection with agricultural interests of the vicinity. He owns eighty acres of land on section 23 and one hundred acres on section 11, Fremont township, and is numbered among progressive and substantial agriculturists. He was born in this county October 24, 1871, a son of Louis Brewer, whose birth occurred in Somersetshire, England, November 5, 1813. The father came to the United States in 1847, settling in Ohio, whence he moved to Wisconsin. He afterward drove a horse and wagon from that state to Bremer county, Iowa, arriving in Fremont township October 12, 1854. He entered from the government forty acres of wild land and made his home thereon until 1889, when he moved to the property now owned by the subject of this review. He married in Bremer county Miss Anna H. Day, a native of England and they became the parents of two children: Charles L., who is residing in California; and George, of this review. The parents were members of the Episcopal church and the father was a republican in his political beliefs, serving as clerk at the first election held in Fremont township. He passed away May 23, 1907.

George Brewer was reared at home and acquired his education in the district schools and in the public schools of Tripoli. He inherited eighty acres of the homestead on section 23 and he has also one hundred acres on section 11, where his father first settled. He has two cement silos upon his farm and substantial buildings, the property reflecting everywhere the care of a progressive and pratical agriculturist. Mr. Brewer is extensively interested in stockraising, breeding registerd Guernsey cattle, Jersey red hogs and other good grades of pigs. He has recently purchased a fine Guensey bull as the head of his herd of cattle.

In Bremer county Mr. Brewer married Miss Bertha Redemann, a daughter of Dr. Philip Redemann, who was born in Hanover, Germany, in 1835 and who came to the United States as a young man. He studied medicine in Rush Medical college in Chicago and after receiving his degree located for practice at Guttenberg, Iowa, whence he moved to Bremer county. He settled at Waverly in 1870 and four years later moved to the old town of Tripoli, whence he afterward moved to the present community. He practiced his profession successfully there until his death in 1893. He was twice married and by his first wife had three children: William, now living in Guttenberg, Iowa; Augusta, who died in 1893; and Dr. D.P. Redemann, of Tripoli, Iowa. His second union was with Miss Matilda Bittner, a native of Pennsylvania, by whom he had six children: Bertha, the wife of the subject of this review; Alfred, who is clerking in Waverly; Clara; Robert; Charles and Carl, deceased. Mrs. Redemann survives her husband and makes her home with her daughter, Mrs. Brewer. Mr. and Mrs. Brewer have three children: Hadley P.; Rose Mary Matilda and Oliver Louis. The parents are members of the First Congregational church at Tripoli.

Mr Brewer gives his political allegiance to the republican party and while he is not active as an office seeker, he takes a commendable interest in the affairs of his native community. His farming methods are modern and practical to a high degree and his progressive spirit is evident in this and in all other relations of his life.
