H.H.C. Tegtmeier, carrying on general farming upon one hundred and ninety acres of land, whereon the first settler in Fremont township located in 1852, is a native son of this locality, born on the farm belonging to his father, Henry Tegtmeier, April 21, 1867. He acquired his education in the district schools and at the age of twenty-one purchased from his father one hundred and seventy-five acres of land on section 33. This farm was taken up by Mr. Butler, the first settler in Fremont township, and the grove was called for many years Butler's Grove. Mr. Tegtmeier afterward bought an additonal fifteen acres and has carried on general farming and stock-raising since 1888 and has met with gratifying and well deserved success. He has erected substantial buildings and installed modern equipment, neglecting nothing which would add to the appearance or value of his farm.

In 1888 Mr. Tegtmeier married Miss Wilhelmina Haase, who was born in Bremer county June 2, 1869, a daughter of Henry and Augusta (Oldendorf) Haase, natives of Germany and early settlers in Jefferson township, this county. The father passed away in 1904 and is survived by his wife, who lives in Tripoli. Mr. and Mrs. Tegtmeier have three children: Herman, who married Emma Buhr and is now engaged in farming in Fremont township; and Artie and Dorothea, at home. The family are members of the Evangelical synod of Tripoli.

Mr. Tegtmeier gives his political allegiance to the democratic party and although not an office seeker, is interested in the growth and development of his native community. He is ranked among progressive and substantial agriculturists and holds a high place in the esteem and regard of his fellow citizens.
