Roy A. Lebo, 83, formerly of Boone, died at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown on Thursday morning, June 9, 2005. He had been a resident at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown since May of
He was born on August 25, 1921, in Boone County, the son of Gordon and Katherine (Schicker) Lebo.
On October 24, 1946, he married Lois V. Capps at the First United Methodist Church in Boone.
Roy was a 1939 graduate of Boone High School. He was a veteran of World War II where he served with the Army in the Pacific theatre from 1944 to 1946. From 1934 to 1968, he farmed in the Jordan area with his parents and brothers. He worked at ISU in Ames, Iowa for 5 years as a patrol officer and for 13 years as a seed certifier tech in the Agronomy department until his retirement in 1985. Roy was also a rural route mail carrier in the Boone area.He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Boone from 1937 to 1968, First United Methodist Church in Ames from 1968 to 1995, and at the Grace Methodist Church in Des Moines from 1995 to 1997. He was also a member of the Golden Kiwanis of Ames, Iowa, American Legion in Boone, Iowa, past member of Master Swine Producers of State of Iowa, Boone County 4-H, and Extension Service. He was a 50 year member of Mt. Olive Masonic Lodge No.#79 in Boone. Roy was awarded the Chevalier in DeMolay in 1940, by the International Supreme Council.
He served as a Sunday School Superintendent at Prairie Center and as a 4-H leader in Jackson Township for a number of years. Roy and his brothers showed hogs at various Midwest Swine competitions. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, outdoor activities, and was an avid ISU fan.
His parents, two sisters, and two brothers preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Lois of Boone, one daughter, Debbie Billingsley and her husband Mike of Cumming, 1 son, Phil Lebo and his wife Nancy of Grundy Center, three grandchildren, Andy Lebo and his wife Tammy of Grundy Center, Jamie Beyer and her husband Kurt of Oxford, Ohio, Dana Billingsley of Cumming, one twin brother, Ray Lebo and his wife Marjorie of Boone, nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Saturday morning, at 10 a.m. June 11 at the First United Methodist Church in Boone with Rev. Jessica Johnston officiating.
Interment with full military honors conducted by the Veterans Council of Boone will be in Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone, Iowa.
Friends may call at the Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone on Friday evening from7-9 p.m. and Saturday morning at the Church from 8:30 a.m. until time of service.
The family will be present at the Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone on Friday evening from 7-8 p.m. to greet friends.
A Masonic service conducted by the Mt. Olive Masonic Lodge #79 of Boone will be held on Friday evening at 7:30 P.M. at the Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone.
Stark-Welin Funeral Directors in Boone, is in charge of arrangements.
