Verlin Eugene Frank, 58, 1622 Mamie Eisenhower Ave., Boone, died Monday at the Madrid Home, Madrid, of complications from Picks, a rare neurological disease. He had been a resident of the home for the past week.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, Boone, with the Rev. Phil Webb and the Rev. Jim Dale officiating. Burial with the presentation of the American Flag by Eilert-Auen American Legion Post No. 313 of Lake View will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Luckow Cemetery in Breda.

Friends may call at First United Methodist Church Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. The family will be present to receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Visitation continues Monday at the church from 8:30 a.m. until time of services.

He was born May 24, 1945, in Lake City, the son of Hiko and Alma (Mohr) Frank. He married Sandra Fortney May 28, 1994, at Sac City. He was formerly married to Marcia Stoffregen.

He was a 1964 graduate of Lake View High School and received his associates of arts degree from Denison Community College in Denison. He served as an electrician on a aircraft carrier with the U.S. Navy from 1964 to 1967. For nearly 20 years, he lived in Denison where he was a commercial, industrial and residential electrician. He also owned and operated a health club and was involved in real estate in Denison and Lake View. In 1994, he moved to Decorah, where he worked as an electrician for Perry Novak Electric contractor. While living in Decorah, he became interested in the foster children program and became a foster and adoptive parent. In July, he and his family moved to Boone to be closer to other family members. He served as a youth community service supervisor with the Boone Community Service organization until the fall of 2002 when health problems forced him to retire.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Boone and Decorah. He was a member if International Toastmasters in Denison, where he won several trophies, and he served as co-president of the Iowa Foster and Adoptive Parents Association until the fall of 2002 when he resigned because of health problems. His hobbies included running.

Survivors include his wife; his mother of Wall Lake; two daughters and one son-in-law, Shelly Pankau of Lake View and Sheila and Michael Velasquez of Colorado Springs, Colo.; eight adoptive and foster children, Taylor Frank of Boone, Marshall Schneider of Des Moines, Eric Frank of Boone, Jordan Burke of Waterloo, Josh Sorenson of Boone, Dan Sorenson of Boone, Sean Dhabalt of Boone and Brittany Cook of Boone; four grandchildren; one sister, Joanne Wiese of Fort Dodge; one brother and sister-in-law, Jerel and Elaine Frank of Lake View; several nieces and nephews; and two esteemed family friends, Ron Pankau of Charter Oak and Dave Nelson of Lohrville.

Memorials may be given to the Iowa Foster and Adoptive Parents Association, 6864 NE 14th St., Ankeny, Iowa 50021.
