Ver-Dene Pritchard, 82, of the Eastern Star Home in Boone and formerly of Pilot Mound, died Tuesday at the Boone County Hospital of respiratory failure. She married Harold W. Pritchard on Jan. 24, 1942, at the United Methodist Church in Boxholm.
She was born March 31, 1920, in Grant Township near Boxholm, the daughter of Emil and Alida (Larson) Wyman. She graduated with the Boxholm Consolidated High School Class of 1937. The couple established their home on a farm south of Pilot Mound. She was employed by Bourn's Inc., in Ames for 16 years until retiring. In 1990, Ver-Dene and Harold moved into Pilot Mound where they remained until moving to the Eastern Star Home in Boone in August of 2001.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Pilot Mound. Her hobbies included playing the piano, camping and she enjoyed her grandchildren. The couple wintered in Mission, Texas, for 14 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Beverly Lorenzen. Survivors include her husband of the Eastern Star Home in Boone; two sons, Tim Pritchard of Omaha, Neb., and Bill and Kim Pritchard of Boxholm; a daughter, Becky, and her husband, Bob Waters of Ogden; five grandchildren, Mike, Brent, Erin, Desiree and Tyler; and one great-grandson, Jamie.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service was held Thursday at the Eastern Star Masonic Home Chapel in Boone, with the Rev. Jung Kim officiating. Burial of the ashes will be at the Pilot Mound Cemetery at a later date.
Memorials may be directed to the United Methodist Church in Pilot Mound. Carson Funeral Home in Ogden is in charge of the arrangements.
