Vera A. Rans, 89, Ogden, died Wednesday at the Boone County Hospital of pneumonia.
Her body will be cremated and no services are planned at ths time.
Vera A. Rans was born on April 19, 1913, in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Walter and Ella Haight. She was raised in Washington and attended Washington Schools. She married William McRunnels and the couple lived in Perry. They were later divorced. Vera was later united in marriage to Floyd Rans. Vera and Floyd lived in Spirit Lake for four years. In 1958, they moved to Fort Dodge where they owned and operated a local convenience store. In the early 1960s they moved to a farm southwest of Ogden.
They later moved to Mission, Texas, where they lived for 10 years until Floyd passed away. Vera then returned to Ogden and in 1998 she moved to the Ogden Manor. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, playing bingo.
She is survived by two sons, Max and his wife Sandy McRunnels of Standish, CA, and Richard McRunnels of Adel; two daughters, Alice Menz of Texas, and Justa and her husband John Sturies of Ogden; nine grandchildren, Meshelle Johnston, Cathy Schneider, Julie Owen, Chuck McRunnels, Debbie Parkinson, Linda White, Ramanda Berg, Dameon McRunnels and Billie Jo McRunnels; 25 great-grandchildren; and a brother James Haight of Australia. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, William McRunnels and Floyd Rans; two sons, Bill McRunnels and Jim McRunnels; two brothers, Oscar Haight and Charlie Haight; and three sisters, Elma Haight, Virginia Henberger and Alice Perry.
Memorials may be directed to the discretion of the family. Carson Funeral Home in Ogden is handling the arrangements.
