Velvo Anderson, 93, of 1222 Tama St., Boone, died of heart failure Friday at the home of her son in Marshall-town. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21, at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall streets, Boone, with the Rev. Dr. Ron Franklin officiating. Burial will be in Linwood Park Cemetery.

She was born March 21, 1911, on a farm in Boone county, the daughter of Mordecai and Ida (McDaniel) Jones. She graduated from Jordan Consolidated School in 1929. She married Paul Anderson in Boone in 1929. The couple divorced in 1944.

Velvo worked in the hemp plant in Boone during World War II. She also was a waitress at the former Twelve Bells and sales clerk at Big Bear, both formerly of Boone.

She later worked as a key punch operator for the Atomic Energy Commission, Ames lab, at Iowa State University, retiring in 1973.

She was a member of the Central Christian Church, Boone, and she enjoyed sewing, crocheting, bowling and playing pinochle.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Donald; four brothers, William, Roscoe, Marion "Jiggs" and Wayne "Jack" Jones; and four sisters, Margery Rockwell, Ida May Alban, June Luther and infant sister Mary Lou. Survivors include two sons, Gerald Anderson and his wife Lois of Marshalltown and Paul Anderson and his wife Bonnie of Cedar Falls; one brother, Lou Jones of Boone; one sister, Genevieve Cook and her husband, Jim, of Boone; 10 grandchildren, Alan, Dennis and Dan Anderson, David Kendall, Scott and Jon Clark, Danette and Denise Anderson and Linda Kondrath; seven great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel from noon to 9 p.m. Monday, where the family will be present from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Visitation continues Tuesday at the funeral chapel from 8 a.m. until service time.

Memorials may be given to Central Christian Church. Schroeder Memorial Chapel, Sixth and Marshall streets, is in charge of the arrangements.
