Arlo Sturtz, 82, of 1830 120th Street, Boone, died Monday at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines of heart failure. He was born August 6, 1918, in Boone County, the son of Albert and Lillian (Ahrens) Sturtz. He married Vera Murken September 9, 1940.

He farmed in Boone County all of his life until his retirement.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and two brothers, Clifford and William. Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Arlyn and Karen Sturtz of Mobile, Ala., and Robert and Connie Sturtz and Melvin Sturtz, all of Boone; a daughter and son-in-law, Janice and David Oppedahl of Boone; a sister, Marie Janolis, of Atascadero, Calif.; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one brother-in-law, Herbert Murken and his wife, Eleanor, of Canby, Minn.; and one sister-in-law, Alice Murken of Boone.

Funeral services were held Friday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, northeast of Boone, with the Rev. Bruce Lakamp officiating. Burial was in St. Paul's Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

Schroeder Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
