Betty Dickeson, 90, formerly of 1116 5th Street in Boone passed away at the Eastern Star Masonic Home on Sunday afternoon, September 30, 2012 where she had resided since July of 2005. She was born on April 15, 1922 in Spencer, Iowa the daughter of Ray and Mary (Boers) Smith. Betty was a graduate of Spencer High School. From 1944 to 1946 during World War II, she served in the Navy. On March 26, 1948, she married Lyle Dickeson in Spencer, Iowa. In 1948, she graduated from Iowa State University with a BS degree in Textile and Clothing. Betty was employed as the Boone Schools’ audiologist and later as the head dietician for the Boone Community School District for a number of years. Following her retirement, she worked at the Needle Nook in Boone. Betty enjoyed embroidery needlework, crocheting, and quilting. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a past member of the Embroiderer’s Guild and Iowa Quilter’s Guild.

Her parents, husband Lyle in October of 2000, and a brother preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter Karen Huffman and husband Steve of Boone; a son Rich Dickeson and wife Donna of Glenwood, Iowa; 5 grandchildren Vicki Vinet and husband Dan of Chesterton, Indiana, Chip Westaby and wife Amy of Kirkwood, Missouri, Sean Clubine and wife Miya of Ogden, Iowa, Michelle Asmus and husband Mark of Audubon, Iowa and Molli Dickeson of Elkhorn, Nebraska; 6 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters Evalyn Bjorlo of Des Moines, Washington and Lucille Norling of Fargo, North Dakota; a brother-in-law James Dickeson and wife Mary of Afton, New York; and a sister-in-law Crystal Klatt and husband Keith of Linn Grove, Iowa.

Following Betty's wishes, her body has been cremated. A graveside service with interment to follow will be held at a later date at Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to express their sympathies through a memorial may direct their gift to the family. ~ The Des Moines (IA) Register Tues 02 Oct 2012.
