Funeral services for Oral Donald Powers, 83, of Hubbard, Iowa, were Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1999 at Carson Funeral Home in Ogden with Rev. Harry Imlay and Rev. Richard Deemy officiating.
Mr. Powers, formerly of the Ogden area, died Friday, Jan. 1, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa.
Casket bearers were David Stark, Michael Deemy, Doug Doty, Travis Carlson, Danny Stark, Daniel Doty, Daryl Doty and Jeff Boggess.
Randy and Deena Divilbiss and children, Calvin, Cory and Casey sang "My Father's World," "The Old Rugged Cross," and "The Eastern Gate," accompanied by Deanna Donelson.
Oral Powers was born March 21, 1915 in Beaver, Iowa, the son of Daniel and Stella Powers.
He attended Beaver schools and graduated from Beaver High School in 1932.
Oral married Edna Irene Shafer Sept. 19, 1935. He farmed in the Beaver and Boxholm areas for many years. Following retirement, he moved to Hubbard, Iowa where he made his home during the summer months.
He enjoyed traveling and spent the winter months in Florida, Texas and Arizona the past 30 years.
Oral invented farm machines to make his job easier and more productive. Late in life, he took up wood carving as a hobby.
Survivors include his wife, Helen; four daughters, Joyce Stark of Salina, Kans., JoAnn Deemy of Encinitas, Calif., Jean Doty of Brooklyn, Iowa, and Jerilyn Carlson of West Union, Iowa; four sons-in-law, 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Pruitt and LaDonna Alexander, both of Nixa, Mo.; and a brother, Wayne of Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Edna, his second wife, Beulah, his parents, one brother, one sister, and three grandchildren.
Burial was at Renner Cemetery near Boxholm.
