Myrtle L. Foes, age 88 of Boone, passed away on Friday, December 12, 2008 at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone.
Myrtle was born on January 29, 1920 in Boone, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Alice Clara (Gibbons) Foes. She attended school in Boone and graduated from Boone High School in 1937. Myrtle has lived all her life in Boone except for the time when she attended Nursing Training at Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa for 4 years. After graduating from Mercy she served for 1 year as a RN at St. Bernard's Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She then worked with the Boone County Hospital as a Registered Nurse for 31 years. Myrtle held the position of House Supervisor and Director of Central Material Supplies. She retired from Boone County Hospital. She served as a patient advocate at the Eastern Star Masonic Home. Her love for nursing led her to live a life of service to others.
Myrtle was a member of the Central Christian Church of Boone; Magi Chapter No. 139, Order of the Eastern Star of Boone for 61 years, serving in all chairs within the chapter, worthy matron two times, and also secretary for 28 years, she was also a member of the Bethphage White Shrine of Jerusalem No. 249 of Boone.
Myrtle is preceded in death by her parents; 2 sisters, Fannie Worsing and May Denning; her 5 brothers, Fred, Edward, Howard, Dudley and Donald and several nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her 4 nieces; Katherine Lucile (Worsing) Reichert (Bruce) of Monroe, Wisconsin, Alice Gentry of California; Norma Meehan of California and Sarah "Sally"; her 3 nephews, Robert Worsing (Marion) of Minnesota; Bill Denning of Waterloo; Richard Foes (Romona) of Junction City, Kansas and her special friend, Lois R. Ross of Boone and numerous great nieces and nephews, she will especially be missed by her great nieces, Cheryl Hurst, Patricia Barry and her great nephew, Robert T. Reichert, also survived by numerous great-great nieces and nephews and other relatives.
It was Myrtle's wish to have her body donated to the University of Iowa Department
of Anatomy at Iowa City, Iowa. Following the studies her body will be cremated and there will be Memorial Graveside service and burial of her cremated remains at a later date at Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Eastern Star Masonic Home, in memory of Myrtle L. Foes.
