John E. Godfrey died at his home in Dodge County, Minn., June 4, 1949, after an illness of seven months, at the age of 71 years. He was a former resident of this community.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 6, at one o'clock from the home and from 2:00 p.m. the Methodist church in Dodge Center, Minn., with Rev. Robert Burress, officiating. Interment was in Riverside cemetery, Dodge Center.
John Edward Godfrey, son of Edward and Martha Godfrey, was born in a family of 13 children, June 5, 1878 at Madrid, Iowa, and he grew to manhood there. He was united in marriage with Anna Bell Hoop, Feb. 5, 1902, at Madrid.
His occupation was farming; the first part of his life was spent at Boone and Worth counties in Iowa and the remainder of his life, in Dakota and Dodge counties, Minn. The last 16 years was spent on the farm, where he died.
He was a member of the I.O.O.F. lodge for 42 years, a member of the Methodist church 35 years. He was always interested in community affairs and was a good citizen. He goes to his reward full of years crowned with the loving memories of his family and friends.
Survivors are: his wife; three sons, Edward of St. Paul; Harold of Hampton; and Raymond of Dodge Center; six grandchildren, eight brothers and sisters: William of Manly, Ia.; Albert of Storm Lake, Ia.; Chad of LeMars, Ia.; Mrs. Ida Hill of Colorado; Mrs. D. Beasley and Mrs. Chas. Thrap of Boone, Ia.; Mrs. J. R. Stover of Rochester, Minn.; Mrs. Drexel Kelsey of Clinton, Ia.
