OgdenFuneral services for Gerald "Jerry" R. Sellers, 66, Ogden, are Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2003 at 10 a.m. at Schroeder-Walter Funeral Home, Boone, with Rev. Richard Boatman officiating. Visitation is Tuesday, Nov. 4 from 1 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home with the family present from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Visitation continues Wednesday at the funeral home from 8 a.m. to the time of the service.
Mr. Sellers died from complications of emphysema Sunday Nov. 2 at Ogden Manor.
Casket bearers are Michael Gregory, Wayne McVey, and Richard and David Evans.
Music selections include "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Amazing Grace."
Jerry Sellers was born June 14, 1937 in Boone, the son of Nienan and Mary (Parent) Sellers, and attended school in Boone. He served in the National Guard of Boone from 1957 to 1963.
In his early years he laid soil for Ken Furman Sod Farm in the Boone and Ames area. He later worked for Standley Transfer Movers of Boone and Quinn Iron Works. He spent 10 years working at the Boone County Landfill, then delivered "The Des Moines Register" newspaper in Boone.
Jerry enjoyed fishing at Tilley's Hole west of Boone, watching Nascar racing and old western and war movies on TV, and listening to country music and "The Beach Boys."
Survivors include five brothers, Donald and his wife Barbara of Tacoma, Wash.; Larry who lives overseas; Rev. Leslie and his wife Colleen of West Branch, Mich.; Daniel of Cedar Rapids; and Ken and his wife Karen of Milwaukee, Wis.; two sisters, Norma and her husband Richard Evans of Story City, and Janet and her husband Richard Gregory of Woodward; numerous nieces and nephews; two grandnieces; and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Interment is at Bluff Vreek Cemetery, northwest of Boone with full military honors by Boone Veterans Council.
Memorials may be made to the family to be used at their discretion.
Schoeder-Walter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
