Thomas "Tom" Hilsabeck, age 59, of 116 West 9th Street, died April 21, 2006 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 25, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at the Central Christian Church with Rev. Paul Fraser officiating.
Burial will be in the Linwood Park Cemetery with a formal folding and presentation of the American Flag onducted by the Boone Veterans Council.
Tom was born in Boone on March 17, 1947, the son of William and Geneva (Craven) Hilsabeck. He graduated from United Community High School in 1967. On June 24, 1967, Tom married Margaret Musser at the Central Christian Church in Boone. He served two years with the United States Army during the Vietnam War. From 1971 to 1989, Tom was employed with Firestone in Des Moines as a tire builder and maintenance man. From 1989 to 2003, he was a truck driver for Hopkins Excavating and presently, he was a truck driver for Structural Components.
Tom was a member of the Central Christian Church. He enjoyed watching John Wayne movies, NASCAR and driver Bobby Labonte, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, infant twin sons, Troy and Jason, and two brothers, Russell and Ronald. He is survived by his wife, Margaret of Boone; three sons Michael Hilsabeck and companion, Heidi Nelson and Danny Hilsabeck and companion, Chayla Myers, all of Boone, and Chad Hilsabeck and wife, Shawna of Alta; a daughter, Amber VanPelt and husband, Matt of Boone; four brothers, Richard and wife, Alice of Romoland, California, LaVerne and wife, Barb, Virgil and wife, Martha, and John and wife, Sandi all of Boone; eight grandchildren, Cole and Tanner Hilsabeck, Kennedy, KateLynn, and Alyzabeth Hilsabeck and Hannah VanPelt all of Boone, and Sidney Jo and Halle Hilsabeck of Alta; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall on Monday from 4 until 9 p.m. where the family will be present from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
Visitation continues Tuesday at the Central Christian Church from 9 a.m. until service time.
Memorials may be directed to the family to be used at their discretion.
