Thomas "T.L." Shaw, age 85, of 1311 Nebraska St., died at the Boone County Hospital on Wednesday from complications of a stroke. A Funeral Mass will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 15, at the Church of the Sacred Heart with the Rev. Clem Currans officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Boone Veterans Council.
He was born in Madrid on Oct. 12, 1919, the son of John and Callie (Holden) Shaw. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1940.
He married Frances "Bunny" Shaw in Boone on Feb. 3, 1951. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army where he served in Normandy and Northern France. For 31 years he was employed for the Chicago North Western Railway as a yardmaster-switchman in Boone retiring in 1979. He was a 51-year member of the U.T.U. Local 329. He was a member of V.F.W. Post 817 and he enjoyed reading, woodworking, and Word Search puzzles.
He was preceded in death by his wife, a brother John and three sisters Agnes, Jeanette, and Bernadine. He is survived by four sons, Steve "Bud" Shaw of Des Moines, Kevin Shaw, Brent Shaw and special friend Kathy Foster, and Patrick Shaw and wife Laura all of Boone; a daughter Camilla Voss and husband Jack of Clemons; a brother LaVerne Shaw and wife Marjorie of Webster City; a sister Betty Adreon of Eddyville; 14 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall streets today (Thursday) from 2 until 9 p.m. where a Vigil Service will be at 7 p.m. Visitation continues Friday at the funeral chapel from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m.
Schroeder Memorial Chapel, Sixth and Marshall streets, is in charge of the arrangements.
