Victor Sayer, 81 of 1021 W. Sixth Street, died at the Boone County Hospital Saturday of heart failure.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3, at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall streets. Burial will be in the Linwood Park Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Boone Veterans Council.
He was born on June 15, 1923 in Davenport, the son of Robert V. and Anna (Husman) Sayer. He graduated from Cedar Rapids High School in 1941. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II where he was involved with the Battle of the Bulge and he received a Purple Heart. He attended Cornell College and Drake University where he received a bachelor of science degree in communication science.
On Dec. 23, 1966, he married Phyllis Smiley in Boone.
Throughout his working life Victor was involved with radio and television in both sales and administration. He was employed with KGRN Radio in Grinnell, KWBG in Boone, and WIOK in Normal, Ill. He later was owner of Mid America Ad Agency and regional manager for National Merchandising Corp of De Pere, Wis.
He enjoyed pool, golf, tennis, and playing cards. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans of Webster County.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife of Boone; one daughter, Victoria Pearson and her husband Gary of Ventura, Calif.; one son, Scott Sayer and his wife Linda of Cedar Rapids; 3 step-sons, William Long and his wife Dorothy of Milton, Fla., Thomas Long and his wife Paula of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Robert Long and his companion Debra Chiri of Madrid; 13 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel from noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday, where the family will be present from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
Visitation continues Wednesday at the funeral chapel from 8 a.m. until service time.
Memorials may be given to the family to be used at their discretion. Schroeder Memorial Chapel, Sixth and Marshall streets, is in charge of the arrangements.
