Victor "Vic" Vandarwarka, 85, a resident of the Evangelical Free Church Home, Boone, and formerly of 1727 13th St., Boone, died Saturday at the home of respiratory failure. He was born Oct. 21, 1916 in Farmington, SD, the son of Vernie and Myrtle (Parks) Vandarwarka. He married Emma Norris May 26, 1945, in Sioux City.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed as a plant superintendent at Heinrich Envelope in Boone for 30 years, retiring in 1981. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 817, American Legion Post No. 56, and A.A.R.P.
His hobbies included gardening, woodworking and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and two sisters, Nellie Werp and Nettie Greenleaf. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Ray and Sheryl of Boone and Roy and Peggy of Joppa, MD; one daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Craig Baskett of Ogden; two brothers, Andrew Vandarwarka of Torrington, WY and Almond Vandarwarka of Nisland, SD; one sister, Iva Fitzgerald of Morrill, NE; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Schroeder Memorial Chapel, Sixth and Marshall streets, Boone, with the Rev. Dr. Herb Foxworthy officiating. Burial with military honors by the Boone Veterans Council will be in Boone Memorial Gardens in Boone.
Friends may call at Schroeder Memorial Chapel, Sixth and Marshall streets, Boone, Tuesday from noon to 9 p.m. The family will be present to receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Visitation continues Wednesday at the funeral chapel from 8 a.m. until time of services.
Memorials may be given to the family to be used at their discretion.
Schroeder Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
