Vincent Baldus, 70, of 1901 First St., Boone, died Jan. 9 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines of heart failure. A Funeral Mass was Tuesday at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Boone.
The Rev. Clem Currans was the officiant. Burial with military honors was conducted by the Boone Veterans Council at Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone.
He was born Feb. 22, 1933, in rural Boone, the son of Alfred and Anselma (Reinsch) Baldus. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He married Nancy Watts on Sept. 4, 1954, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church north of Gilbert.
He and his wife owned and operated Bowl-Mor-Lanes in Boone from 1960 until 1998 when he retired. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose 104, V.F.W. Post 817, American Legion Post 56, B.P.O. Elks 563, the Knights of Columbus Leo Council 814, the Hunt and Fish Club and the Boone County Bowling Association and their Hall of Fame. In addition to bowling, he also enjoyed fishing, playing cards and family activities.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother David, an infant sister Mary, a great-grandson Alex Debont and a nephew.
Survivors include his wife of Boone; four sons and daughters-in-law, Alan of Madrid, Rodney and Roberta of Ankeny, Anthony and Nancy of Boone and Chad of Nevada; two daughters and sons-in-law, Diana and Edward Sidler of Cedar Falls and Carla and Max Wickman of Boone; one brother, Maurice Baldus of Boone; one sister, Arlene Knous of Story City; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be directed to the family to be used at their discretion. Schroeder Memorial Chapel, Sixth and Marshall streets, was in charge of the arrangements.
