Vincent "Leon" Wiltsey, 71, 921 W. First St., Boone, died Tuesday at his home of cancer.

The body has been gifted to the Department of Anatomy at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 14,near the Veterans Monument in Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone with Norman Gunnick and the Rev. Kathy Reid officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Boone Veterans Council.

A luncheon and celebration of his life will be held at V.F.W. Post No. 817, 815 Keeler St., Boone, following the service.

He was born Nov. 1, 1932, in Alliance, Neb., the son of Walter and Bertha (Ditsch) Wiltsey. He married his wife, Carol, Jan. 4, 1988, in Las Vegas, Nev.

He graduated from high school in 1950 from Rhodes, and joined the United States Army, serving in the Korean conflict. He returned home and farmed until 1961. He moved to Boone and became the first laboratory technician at the National Animal Disease Center in Ames and was employed there until his retirement in 1989. Following his retirement, he worked as an attendant at the Boone Super Wash car wash.

He was a life member of V.F.W. Post No. 817, where he was a past commander. He also belonged to American Legion Post No. 56, Moose Lodge No. 104, FEZ-B-Shrine Club and Za-Ga-Zig Shriners. He was a life member of the Hunt and Fish Club of Boone and was a member of the Boone Veterans Council. His hobbies included hosting rib and fish feeds at the V.F.W. and Moose Lodge, camping, fishing and socializing with his many friends.

Survivors include his wife; four sons and one daughter-in-law, Terry and Larry of Boone, Ronald of Des Moines, and Robert and Teresa of Flower Mound, Texas; three grandchildren, Rhonda Jolene, Amanda and Ashley; two step-daughters, Laura Davis and her husband, Tim, and Tracy Aguilar, all of Lincoln, Neb.; four step-grandchildren, Jeff, Brandy, Ryan and Caitlin; three great-grandchildren, Araya, Autumn and Phoenix; one sister, Bonnie Evans; one niece and her family; and one nephew and his family.

Memorials may be given to the family and will be donated to charities of their choice.

Schroeder Memorial Chapel, Sixth and Marshall streets, Boone, is in charge of arrangements.
