Viola M. Swanson, 81, Boone, formerly of Boxholm, died Tuesday at the Boone County Hospital. Funeral services were Friday morning at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Boxholm, with the Rev. Rod Meyer officiating. Burial was in the Prairie Lawn Cemetery in Boxholm.
Viola was born April 19, 1922, in Paton, the daughter of William and Bertha (Tourte) Lehman. She attended Boxholm High School, graduating with the class of 1939. She married Lester Swanson on March 1, 1946, at her parents' home. The couple farmed near Boxholm.
She was a homemaker and later was a teller at the Boone State Bank in Boxholm until her retirement. After her husband Lester passed away in 1969, Viola stayed on the farm until moving to Ogden in September of 1999. She later moved to the Eastern Star home in August of 2002 in Boone.
She was a member of the Alpha Study Club and participated in various church activities and organizations. She enjoyed playing golf, gardening and she enjoyed traveling.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one brother, Vern. Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Linda Pickering of Altoona and Leah and Hollies Shadle of Frazer; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; one brother, Harold Lehman of Paton; and one sister, Irma Beuerman of Kingman, Ariz.
Memorials may be left to the Trinity Lutheran Church in Boxholm. Carson Funeral Home of Ogden was in charge of the arrangements.
