Audrey Neff 1906-2002

Audrey Neff, 95, a resident of the Eastern Star Masonic Home, Boone, and formerly of 317 W. Fourth St., Boone, died Sept. 27 at the home of congestive heart failure. She had been a resident of the home since February of 1998. She was born Sept. 28, 1906 in Minersville, OH, the daughter of Leonard and Elizabeth (Hughes) Grueser. She married Charles Neff June 16, 1925, in Covington, KY.

She was a graduate of Pomeroy High School in Pomeroy, OH and attended Capital University in Columbus, OH. She and her husband lived in Chicago, IL for many years, where she was a homemaker. The couple moved to Boone in 1989. She was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church in Boone. Her hobbies included reading and knitting. She knitted items for her family and knitted hundreds of caps for Caps for Kids. She also had been a volunteer for many years at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in January of 2001; one great-granddaughter; one great-grandson; two brothers; and four sisters. Survivors include three daughters and three sons-in-law, Carolyn and George Gottschalk of Nevada, Dolores and Florian Bobek of Tomball, TX and Barbara and Robert Ivan of Arlington Heights, IL; nine grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.

The body has been cremated and no visitation will be held.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Eastern Star Masonic Home chapel with the Rev. Daniel W. Solomon officiating. Burial of the cremains will be in Nevada Cemetery in Nevada.
