EDWARD GERMER

Funeral services for Edward Germer were held at Trinity Lutheran Church on Saturday afternoon, Jan 3, 1959. The Rev. Martin L. Seltz, pastor of the church, spoke on the subject "Solemn Opportunity", I Timothy 4:18. "Abide With Me" was the hymn sung by the congregation and a duet composed of Mrs. Herman Aidag and Mrs. Fred C. Porter sang "What a Friend We Have in Jesus."

Pallbearers were Dean Lee, Vernon Kinsey, Charles Sebring, Donald Walker, Ted Walker, and Robert Kemmerer. Those in charge of flowers were Mrs. Vera Cox and Mrs. Margaret Hicks. Interment took place at Linwood cemetery.

William Edward Germer was born on September 15, 1883 at Pilot Mound, Boone County, the son of Matthew Henry Germer and Wilhelmine nee Wagner. At the age of 18 he became a railroad employee, then for many years worked as hoisting engineer in the mines, and in later years followed the trade of carpenter.

On May 1, 1904 he was married to Lettie Tilley of Pilot Mound and enjoyed with her the blessing of over 54 years of wedded life. Five children were born to this union, two sons and three daughters, one son preceding him in death in infancy.

He was baptized on July 29, 1888 by Pastor Frase and on March 23, 1963 was confirmed at Zion Lutheran church, Ogden, by Pastor Kreutz. Though a resident in Boone for the last eleven years, he continued his membership in Zion congregation, and when his health began to fail, was served by Pastor Kreutz with Word and Sacrament in his home. Stricken early New Year's morning, he died at the Boone county hospital at the age of 75 years, 3 months, and 17 days.

Surviving him are his widow; one son, Donald of Boone; three daughters, Mrs. Harriet Walker of Marshalltown, Mrs. Tom Parks of Boone, and Mrs. Mabel Kouhns of Ogden; also a brother, Elmer, of Fort Dodge, 15 grandchildren, and 36 great grandchildren. Besides one infant son, two brothers also preceded him in death, Charles and Louis.
