Richard M. Odell, 70, 1239 Jade Place, Ogden, died Saturday at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames of complications from cancer. He was born Dec. 4, 1930, in Des Moines, the son of Lee and Margaret (Moore) Odell. He married Mary Lowder July 2, 1951, in Bangor, Maine.
He was a 1949 graduate of Boone High School and received his bachelor's degree in business administration from Drake University in Des Moines in 1973. He and his father owned and operated the Western Auto store in Boone until 1970. He was employed as an auditor for the Borden Company and later as a comptroller for the Nyemaster Goode Voights West Hansen & O'Brien law firm in Des Moines. He also was co-owner of OshKosh Tanning Company in Boone for 16 years before retiring. He served in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean conflict. He was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church in Boone and the Lion's Club of Ogden.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Christine Odell of Hutchinson, Kan., and Susan Odell of Ogden; and two grandchildren, Katherine Odell of Boone, and Andrew Odell of Ogden.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at Augustana Lutheran Church with the Rev. Doug Duin officiating. Burial will be in Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone.
Friends may call at Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone from 8 to 11 a.m. today and at the church from noon until time of services.
Memorials may be given to Augustana Lutheran Church or Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.
