Mildred Pollard 1906-2001

Mildred Pollard, 94, formerly of 922 16th street in Boone, died Saturday at the Boone County Hospital of respiratory complications. She had been a resident at the Evangelical Free Church Home in Boone since July of 1999.

She was born Aug. 24, 1906, in Hamilton County, the daughter of August and Anna Maria (Nystrand) Anderson. She was a 1924 graduate of Boone High School. After graduation, she was employed as a bookkeeper for Holst Publishing until she married. She married Benjamin A. Pollard on June 7, 1930 in Boone.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for 45 years, served as a deaconess and held offices on numerous boards in the church. She was also a member of Beta Auxiliary of Christian Service with the Marion Street Methodist Church and the Northwestern Railroad Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Benny in 1975; her husband in 1983; one sister, Alma; two brothers, Martin and Lawrence. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Pyllis and Ed Trites of Boone; five grandchildren, Felicia Gage and her husband, Chris, of Boone; Henry and his wife, Tammi Trites, of Granville, Ohio; Holly and her husband, Todd Christiansen, of Des Moines; Heather Pollard of Plano, Texas; Hans Pollard of Decatur, Ill.; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Lillian Ferry of Boone; and a daughter-in-law, Colleen Anderson of Bondurant.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday morning at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Boone with the Rev. Norman Haupt officiating. Burial will be in the Mineral Ridge Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone on Tuesday from 3 until 9 p.m, where the family will be present to greet friends from 7 until 9 p.m. and at the First Baptist Church on Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. until time of service.

Memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church in Boone.
