Mary L. Putzier, 72, Storm Lake, died Tuesday at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake after an illness of several months. She was born April 1, 1930, in Cherokee, the daughter of William Vincent and Veronica H. (Eral) Waters. She married Kenneth A. Putzier Aug. 29, 1052, in Cherokee.
She graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in Cherokee with the class of 1948. She attended St. Joseph Mercy School of Nursing in Sioux City, graduating in 1951. She and her husband made their homes in Lincoln, NE and Kansas City, MO before moving to Storm Lake in December of 1960. She worked as a registered nurse in Sioux City and Kansas City. After moving to Storm Lake, she worked part-time for several years at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake, Chapter EP of P.E.O, and was a member of the Buena Vista Hospital Auxiliary for many years, volunteering in the coffee shop. She was also a volunteer for the Means on Wheels program. She was an avid and masterful bridge player and participated in numerous bridge clubs. She directed the Friday Duplicate Bridge Club at the Storm Lake Elks Lodge for many years.
Her father; and her brother-in-law, Joseph Tankersley, preceded her in death. Survivors include her husband; her mother of Cherokee; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Patrick and Kathleen Putzier of Salina, KS, Jeffrey and Jane Putzier of Boone and Mark Putzier of Omaha, NE; one daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Charles Crouch of Spencer; nine grandchildren, William and Maria Putzier of Salina, KS, Amanda, Gabrielle and Brittany Putzier of Boone and Megan, Shealyn, Amy and Emily Crouch of Spencer; four brothers and sisters-in-law, David and Ellen Waters of Madisonville, KY, Bill and Mary Waters of Little Rock, AR, John and Joanne Waters of Westminster, CO, and Patrick and Brenda Waters of Charlotte, UT; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Ann Tankersley of Portland, OR, and Eleanor and Gene Thill of Spencer; her brothers- and sisters-in-law, Roger Putzier of Quimby, Norma Caster of Fort Dodge and LaDonna Ledden of King City, MO; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. Robert Schimmer, the Rev. Robert Waters and the Rev. Roger Linnan officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Friends may call at Fratzke and Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake after 3 p.m. Thursday. The family will be present to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. A parish scripture service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to the Lake Preservation Association of Storm Lake and the Storm Lake Area Hospice.
