Walter E. "Bud" Samuelson, 81, 1310 Doran Circle, Boone, died Thursday at Boone County Hospital of cardiac arrest. He was born Aug. 27, 1919, in Jackson Township, the son of Glenn and Mae (Wickstrom) Samuelson. He married Jean Moore Nov. 29, 1945, in Boone.

He was a graduate of Jordan High School and attended Iowa State University. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Marine Corps in the Pacific Theater. He served two tours of duty and was a member of the Bat Eye Night Fighter Squadron at Peleliu, Palau Islands. He was employed by the railroad for a short time, then returned to farming and continued to farm in Jackson Township until his retirement. He and his wife moved to Boone 12 years ago. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Boone, Elks, American Legion, VFW, Marine Corps League, and the Boone Golf & Country Club. His hobbies included golfing, fishing, watching football, following Iowa State University sports, and wintering in Southern California.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters. Survivors include his wife; one daughter and son-in-law, Susie and Bob Crist of Overland Park, Kan.; one son, Tom Samuelson, Lake Geneva, Wis.; one grandson, Bradford T. Crist of Overland Park, Kan.; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Nadine Hoffman of Miami, Okla., and Alice "Sammy" and Ken Larson of Dallas, Texas; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Bob and Shirley Samuelson of Boone, and LaVerne and Theresa Samuelson, also of Boone; one brother-in-law, Bill Giles of Waukee; and several nieces and nephews.

The body has been cremated.

Memorial services were held Monday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Fred Cressman officiating. Burial will full military honors by the Boone Veterans Council was in Linwood Park Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church of Boone, or the junior golf program and the Boone Golf & Country Club.

Stark-Welin Funeral Directors of Boone was in charge of arrangements.
