Harold Staley, 83, 1602 13th St., Boone, died Wednesday at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines of congestive heart failure. He was born Feb. 12, 1918, in Boone, the son of Alonzo and Mernie (Davis) Staley. He married Arlene Saunders Jan. 1, 1956, in Boone.
He was a 1936 graduate of Boone High School and was a veteran of World War II, serving as a radio operator with the Army. He was a mechanic for Vogler-Nieman Chevrolet for a number of years and worked as a serviceman for Hamilton Hardware. He then was employed in the heating and air conditioning department at Iowa State University from 1961 to 1979 when he retired. He was a member of Central Christian Church, Odd Fellows, Lions Club, American Legion and was past president of the Ham Key Club. He also served as an engineer for the Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Maxine in December of 1954; and his second wife in February of 1987. Survivors include many friends.
Graveside services and burial will be held at 10 a.m. today at Boone Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Dr. Ron Franklin officiating.
