Elma M. Steltzer, 100, a resident of the Eastern Star Masonic Home, Boone, and formerly of 119 S. Story St., Boone, died Nov. 5 at the home of congestive heart failure. She was born Dec. 18, 1900, in Woodward, the daughter of James and Cari (McLaughlin) Reed. She married Ewald W. Berglund in 1920. He was killed in an airplane crash in 1934 and she married Philip S. Steltzer Aug. 5, 1938, in Nashua.

She was a member of Central Christian Church, P.E.O Chapter JL, D.A.R., White Shrine, American Legion Auxiliary, Iowa TB and Respiratory Disease Association and many social clubs. She also was a Gray Lady with the American Red Cross and in 1973 she received the Volunteer Health Service Award of the women's auxiliary to the Iowa Medical Society.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband; and one brother, Harley Reed. Survivors include her husband; one son and daughter-in-law, James and Mary Berglund of LaJolla, CA; two daughters, Patricia Rierson of Boone and Doris Lytle of Golden, CO; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

The body has been creamated and no visitation is scheduled.

Memorials services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Central Christian Church with the Rev. Dr. Ron Franklin officiating. Burial of the cremains will be in Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry.

Memorials may be given to the Eastern Star Masonic Home or Central Christian Church.

Stark-Welin Funeral Directors of Boone is in charge of arrangements.
