Richard Stone, Jr., 65, 2028 Story St., Boone, died Friday at Boone County Hospital of cancer. He was born April 19, 1935, in Story County, the son of Richard Sr. and Marie (Shanklin) Stone. He married Beulah Walters May 27, 1955, in Madrid.
In earlier years, he was a member of the Iowa National Guard and for 17 years he worked as a mold maker at Quinn Machinery. He then worked for 15 years as a maintenance engineer at Iowa State University, retiring in 1998. He was a former member of the Loyal Order of Moose. His hobbies included camping, fishing, boating and traveling.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother. Survivors include his wife; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Randy and Brenda Stone and Rodney Stone, all of Boone; one daughter, Debbie Zunkel of Boone; one brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Rosie Stone of Boone; nine grandchildren, Tony Williams, Amanda Vodochodsky, Brooke Nelson, and Ryan, Brandon, Alex, Daniel, Nathan and Richard Lee Stone; two brothers-in-law, Morris Walters and his wife, Joyce, and Melvin Walters and his wife, Gloria, all of Pilot Mound; and one sister-in-law, Nancy Rehbehn and her husband, Paul, of Boone.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Central Christian Church in Boone with the Rev. Dr. Ron Franklin officiating. Burial will be in Bass Point Cemetery.
Friends may call at Schroeder Memorial Chapel, Sixth and Marshall streets, Boone, today from 8 a.m. until noon and at the church from 1 p.m. until time of services.
Memorials may be given to the family to be used at their discretion.
Schroeder Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
