Richard "Dick" Winefeldt, 72, of 729 6th Street, died at the Boone County Hospital on Tuesday due to cancer. He was born Dec. 4, 1928, in Hankinson, N.D., the son of Richard and Martha (Wrege) Winefeldt. He graduated from Hankinson High School in 1945. He later lived in Wahpeton, N.D. He moved to Boone in 1964 and was employed with Boone Construction Inc. where he was a foreman of roofing. He retired in 1987.

His hobbies included hunting and fishing, coin collecting, and loved the outdoors.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Helen Griffin and Rose Tallman. He is survived by three sons and one daughter-in-law, Mickeal and Gail of Locwood, Mo., Steven of Mason City, and Louis of California; four daughters, Linda Steel and Susan Sample, both of Council Bluffs, Paula Dawson of Omaha, Neb., and Debra Pryor of Churdan; his companion, Shirley Winters of Boone; two sisters, Violet Naslund of Council Bluffs, and Mavis Winefelt of Falton, Calif.; 17 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

The body was cremated. A memorial service will be Thursday, June 7 at 10:30 a.m. at Schroeder Memorial Chapel, 6th and Marshall streets, with the Rev. Herbert Foxworthy officiating. Disposition of the cremains will be at a later date.

Friends may call Thursday at the funeral chapel from 8 a.m. until time of service.

Memorials may be given to the family to be used at their discretion.

Schroeder Memorial Chapel, 6th and Marshall streets, was in charge of arrangements.
