Theodore "Ted" Doran, 92, Aloha, Oregon and formerly of Boone, died Sunday at his home of complications of cancer. He was born Dec.30, 1908, in rural Beaver, the son of Lester G. and Clara (Chase) Doran. He married Bonita McCann May 23, 1928, in Beaver.
He was a 1925 graduate of Beaver Consolidated School and graduated with honors in August of 1939 from Drake University with a law degree. Following graduation, he joined his uncle, Lant Doran, and his brother, Alvin Doran, in the Doran Law Firm. He continued to practice law until his retirement in December of 1982. In 1961, Drake University honored him by electing him to "The Order of the Coil." He was a member of Beaver Methodist Church, law fraternal Delta Theta Phi, Iowa State Bar Association and Boone Golf & Country Club. He was a life member of the Boone Elks Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one grandson, Keith Lafferty; one son-in-law, William Lafferty; and three brothers, Justin Doran, Alvin Doran and George Doran. Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Lafferty and Theo Doran, both of Aloha, Oregon; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and one sister, Olive Marie Espe of Independence.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone with the Rev. Dean Fullerton officiating. Burial will be in Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone.
Friends may call at Stark-Welin Chapel Friday from 4 to 9 p.m. The family will be present to receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Visitation continues Saturday at the funeral chapel from 8 a.m. until time of services.
Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.
Stark-Welin Funeral Directors of Boone is in charge of arrangements.
