James Patrick Diggins, 89, a resident of the Woodward Health Care Center, Woodward, and formerly of Boone, died Friday at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines of respiratory failure. He had been a resident of the center for two and one-half years. He was born July 30, 1911, in Boone, the son of James and Mary (Connor) Diggins.

He farmed in Harrison Township northeast of Boone for many years. He was a member of Saint's Peter & Paul Catholic Church. His hobbies included the outdoors and gardening.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Edward Diggins; and one sister, Ellen McCoy. Survivors include one nephew and several cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Schroeder Memorial Chapel, Sixth and Marshall streets, Boone, with the Rev. Clem Currans officiating. Burial will be in Saint's Peter & Paul Cemetery north of Gilbert.

Friends may call at Schroeder Memorial Chapel today from noon to 9 p.m. A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Visitation continues Wednesday at the funeral chapel from 8 a.m. until time of service.

Schroeder Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
