Edwin Duncan, 71, 583 Juniper Road, Pilot Mound, died Monday at his home of heart failure. He was born Aug. 3, 1929, in Boone, the son of Cara and Sylvia (Tilley) Duncan. He married Maxine Martin Jan. 13, 1951, in Boone.
He was a 1948 graduate of Boone High School and was a veteran of the Korean conflict, serving with the United States Army. In earlier years. he worked for Culligan Water Conditioning, John Deere in Ankeny, Boone Co-op, and in later years, he worked for Duncan Plumbing & Heating in Boone. He also worked as a maintenance man at Iowa State University. He was co-owner of Duncan Excavating with his brother, and he also farmed. He was a member of the American Legion Groom Kimsey Post No. 16 of Pilot Mound. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, traveling, and playing cards.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, George; and one brother-in-law, Bill Robertson. Survivors include his wife; one son and daughter-in-law, Edwin A. and Diane Duncan of Pilot Mound; one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Roger Howard of Boxholm; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Dow and Beverly Duncan of Boone, and Lester and Mary Duncan of Pilot Mound; one sister, Lavina Robertson of Chicago, Ill.; one sister-in-law, Marilyn Duncan of Boone; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday at Schroeder Memorial Chapel, Sixth and Marshall streets, Boone, with the Rev. Dr. Herbert Foxworthy officiating. Burial with military honors by American Legion Groom Kimsey Post No. 16 of Pilot Mound was in Pilot Mound Cemetery in Pilot Mound.
Memorials may be given to the family to be used at their discretion.
Schroeder Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
