Loretta M. Harten, 89, formerly of 921 Second St., Boone, died Thursday at the Eastern Star Masonic Home, Boone, of congestive heart failure. She had been a resident of the home since December of 1996. She was born Dec. 24, 1911, in Boone, the daughter of Andrew, Jr. and Mary (Sunstrom) Anderson. She married Emil Harten Aug. 3, 1940.
She was a 1929 graduate of Boone High School and was a 1931 graduate of Chicago Lutheran Bible School. She graduated with an RN degree from the Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago in 1934. She practiced nursing in Spencer, Ames and Boone and retired from McFarland Clinic in Ames in 1976. She was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church, where she was active in the church choir, women's organizations, Esther Circle, worship and music committees and as an office volunteer. She was a member of Hypatia Club and Sewing Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in August of 1974; one sister, Emmatine Eppert; three brothers, Royden Anderson, George A. Anderson and Robert M. Anderson. Survivors include one son, Albert Steinberg of Britt; one sister, Louise Hoglund of Fort Walton Beach, FL; two sisters-in-law; six nieces; five nephews; and two cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Augustana Lutheran Church with the Rev. Daniel W. Solomon officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Ogden.
Friends may call at Stark-Welin Chapel Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. The family will be present to receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Visitation continues Monday at the church from 8:30 a.m. until time of services.
Memorials may be given to Augustana Lutheran Church or the Eastern Star Masonic Home.
