Jack H. Camelin, 73, of 227 South Cedar Street, Boone, Iowa passed away at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa on Sunday morning, June 4, 2006.

He was born December 15, 1932 in Corwith, Iowa the son of John R. and Ruth (Brown) Camelin.

On July 13, 1963 he married Glenda McCambridge at Boone, Iowa.

Jack was a 1950 graduate of Corwith High School. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving with the U.S. Army. He returned home from the service and worked in the Corwith area until he joined the Iowa Highway Patrol. In 1956 Jack was stationed in Boone and in 1962 he was appointed Deputy Sheriff of Boone County. In 1964, he was elected Sheriff of Boone County, a position he held for 8 years. After leaving the Sheriff's Department in 1972, he worked for Hallett Construction as the company's Safety Director for the next 15 years. After his retirement, he farmed for the Doug Good family and worked for Reuters Red Power in Ames and Vetter's Equipment in Nevada.

He attended the First Evangelical Free Church in Boone, was an active member of the Boone Area Pilots Association and served on the Boone Airport Commission for 19 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother, Orpha, 2 sisters, Imogene and Janice.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Glenda, of Boone, Iowa, 2 children, John (Tammi) Camelin of Blair, Nebraska, Martha (Tim) Schwind of Boone, Iowa, 1 sister, Madge (Bart) Bourdo of Kalamazoo, Michigan, mother-in-law, Pearl McCambridge of Boone, Iowa, 5 grandchildren, Kelsey, Colby, and Riley Camelin, Blake and Bria Schwind.

Services will be held Thursday morning, June 8th at 11:00 A.M. at the Evangelical Free Church in Boone with Pastor Stephen Gehman officiating.

Private interment will be held at a later date in Squire Boone Cemetery, south of Boone, Iowa.

Friends may call at the Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone on Wednesday evening from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. and Thursday morning at the Church from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service.

The family will be present at the Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone on Wednesday evening from 6:00 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. to greet friends.

Stark-Welin Funeral Directors in Boone, Iowa is in charge of arrangements.
