Ralph Kilstrom, 87, 1461 263rd Lane in rural Madrid, died Friday at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown of heart failure. He was born Nov. 9, 1913 in Boone County near Luther, the son of Carl and Agnes (Anderson) Kilstrom. He married Angie Dickeson Feb. 22, 1948, in Boone.

He attended school in Blue Earth, Minn. and at Luther Consolidated School. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II and was stationed in the South Pacific. He farmed and he was also employed at the Tri-County Co-op elevator in Luther from 1972 to 1978 when he retired. He was a member of the Madrid American Legion and the Boone County Historical Society. He enjoyed raising livestock and tinkering with mechanical items.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Victoria Kilstrom; a stepson, Robert Kilstrom; and a brother, Roy Kilstrom. Survivors include his wife; a son, Ronald and his wife Shawna of rural Madrid; a daughter-in-law, Rebecca Pritchard of Boone; a sister-in-law, Mavis Kilstrom of Ames; five grandchildren, Nicholas, Kyle and Holly Sue Kilstrom of rural Madrid, and Mike Pritchard and Mandy Dahl, both of Boone; and five great-grandchildren.

The body has been cremated. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Luther City Hall in Luther, with the Rev. Darold Snow officiating. A family graveside service and burial of the cremains will be in the Boone Memorial Gardens in Boone at a later date.

There will be no visitation. Memorials may be given to the Luther Christian Church or to the family to be used at their discretion. Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall streets is in charge of the arrangements.
