Francis "Frank" Rardin, 72, 1233 Fifth St., died Sunday at his home of cancer. He was born July 13, 1929, in Berkley, the son of Holly and Crystal (Rans) Rardin. On Nov. 23, 1968, he married Barbara Tedrow in Boone.
He attended school in Boone and served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. For 42 years he was employed as a warehouseman for Fareway Stores, Inc., retiring in 1995. In earlier years he was a member of the Boone County Bowling Association. He was a member of the American Legion Post 56 and the VFW Post 817. He enjoyed collecting stamps, making quilts and following Cubs baseball.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Harold and Virgil "Spats" Rardin.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; one daughter, Jennifer Rardin of Boone; one son, John of Eagan, Minn.; one brother, Albert Rardin and his wife, Pauline, of Lakeview; two sisters, Viola and her husband Leonard Lycke, and Marie DeVoogd, all of Boone; and several nieces and nephews.
The body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel, Sixth and Marshall streets, with the Rev. Dr. Richard Harken officiating. Burial of the cremains will be in the Linwood Park Cemetery at a later date.
Friends may call at Schroeder Memorial Chapel from noon to 9 p.m. today, where the family will be present from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Visitation continues Wednesday at the funeral chapel from 8 a.m. until service time.
Memorials may be given to the First Presbyterian Church or to the American Cancer Society.
