Charles William Stevens, 71, 203 Harrison St., Boone, died Thursday at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames of complications of cancer. He was born Feb. 21, 1929, in Carroll, the son of Archie and Carrie May (Beemer) Stevens. He married Dorothy May Craven July 15, 1967, in Boone.
He served in the military for 14 1/2 years, three years with the Army and 11 1/2 years with the Air Force. He worked as a security guard in Fort Dodge before moving to Boone, where he drove a taxi for a number of years. He was a member of the Bethany Church in Des Moines.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife; one son, Asa Thomas Stevens of Ames; two daughters, Pauline May Stevens Salarino of Huxley, and Donna Kay Stevens; one step-daughter, Rosemary Craven of Colorado Springs, Colo.; four grandchildren; and two brothers, Donald Wallace Stevens of Carlisle, and Asa David Stevens of Wichita, Kan.
Graveside services with military honors and burial will be held at 11 a.m. today at Dillavou Cemetery near Ralston with the Rev. Ryan Davis officiating.
Stark-Welin Funeral Directors of Boone is in charge of arrangements.
