LaVerne Lowell Wilson, 68, died Sunday at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. He was born Aug. 28, 1932, in Boone County, the son of Louie S. and Cynthia Jean (Small) Wilson. He married Corliss Capps June 27, 1954, in Boone. She died Sept. 1, 1991, and he married Kay Brauer Aug. 3, 1996, in Ogden.
He attended grade school in Beaver and graduated from Ogden High School in 1950. He then served with the Iowa Army National Guard and began farming northwest of Ogden in 1952. He had lived on the farm until his death. He was a member of Community United Methodist Church in Ogden. His hobbies included playing his guitar, singing, spending time with his grandchildren, and traveling with his wife in their camper.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; his daughter, Karol Lyn Wilson in 1960; one brother, Bernard Wilson; and one sister, Josephine Reynolds. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Brad Wilson of Ogden, and Brian Wilson of West Liberty; one daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Charlie Schelle of Fort Dodge; six grandchildren, Jared, Joshua and Jamin Wilson, and Nicholas, Nathan, and Noah Schelle; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Community United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bob Cook officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Ogden.
Friends may call at Carson Funeral Home today from 5 to 8 p.m.
Memorials may be given to the KFGQ Christian radio station in Boone.
